Through subjective intellectual interpretation and unconventional techniques, Anu Annam captures individual mental states, auras, and nuances of personalities in her portraiture, focusing on self- portraiture during times of introspection. She has become nationally and internationally renowned for her ability to capture the emotional essence of her subjects using her impressionistic to semi-abstract style. She will be having a mini Solo Show at the Islip Art Museum in starting June highlighting her style.
Annam has been nominated for the Long Island Press' "The Best of Long Island: Best Artist" competition, has won Long Island's SPARKBOOM's “Post No Bills” Public Art Exhibition, India's Vivekananda Institute's "Award of Human Excellence in Dedication to her Nation and Profession" and New York City's Legros Cultural Arts' "Artist of the Year" titles, among other accolades. Annam has brought her hometown of Long Island and her birthplace of Hyderabad together as the creator and director of the "Art Center for the Children of Sphoorti" benefit, where she has curated art and music shows on Long Island and New York City in order to raise money and awareness to help fund a healing, arts-based education for traumatized orphans and abandoned children in India, all the while curating numerous shows for organizations like Legros Cultural Arts and the Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and venues such as the Cinema Arts Centre of Huntington and Campari <Art House> Ristorante of Northport for her fellow artists on Long Island and NYC. She sells her own paintings world-wide and teaches at the prestigious Art League of Long Island in Dix Hills, in the Glen Head School District Continuing Education Program, at the Patchogue Library, at The Social Painter in Chelsea, Manhattan and mentors and teaches privately at her studio, Anu Annam Arts & Illustration, located at The Studios at Suite Pieces in Huntington Station, NY.
